Our trip to Vienna ended with a blue sky and a cup of coffee.

Mellie's Home no. 3

At Mellie's home there is always so many interesting things, so many details to notice, and so many nice pictures to take. Maybe you remember her other homes? The one in Budapest or the one in Berlin? If you take a closer look, you might be able recognise some of the stuff. She had so many thing in various places, but now finally everything she owns is gathered in one.

Her apartment in Vienna had  - like the one in Budapest - a beautiful herringbone floor. This one with curves up and down. The door between bedroom and living room was the highpoint, the middle of the living room the lowest. It had tall doors and high ceiling and was bright and hyggelig.

She still holds on to my grandparents old London couch, so there is a bit of nostalgia for me when I visit. Being at Mellie's feels almost like being at home.

Sunday on the Wiener Weinberge

We had three days in Vienna with very different weather. Saturday was grey and rainy, Sunday was filled with snow and wind, and Monday was fresh and sunny.

On Sunday we went to the Mountains not far from Vienna. It is only half an hour of public transport away. Mellie brought her sled and Fleur had her very first sled ride. In the mountains it was really a winter wonderland. So many people went there with their kids to play in the snow. The day really made me appreciate the mountains. Coming from Denmark it is not something I grew up with our ever experienced in my childhood, and it has been over 15 years since I was last in the snowy mountains and had a day like this.

When we arrived we took a walk up to something called Am Himmel. Here we had a cup of coffee with all the other people eating soup and warming up after being outside. Afterwards we took the sled for a spin and went back down to the bus stop. Here we had lunch in one of the cafées overlooking Vienna, that was beginning to be slightly visible after it stopped snowing.

It must be so nice to live in a big city and still have the mountains so close, that you can go whenever you feel like it.

Vienna

This weekend, we went to Vienna to visit Mellie. It is our first trip out of town postpartum that doesn't involve visiting relatives and it was quite a different city trip than any prior experiences. I haven't been to Vienna before and I am not sure I can really say that I saw the city, but the part we saw was rather nice.

We arrived late Friday afternoon and there wasn't really time for anything else than a stroll around the nearest park. Saturday we went to the local farmers market and did grocery shopping, drank coffee and had a really nice lunch at the local fish place.

It was quite a cold and wet day so we just went for a short trip around the neighbourhood while Fleur did her afternoon nap. In the evening we had abendbrot with some of the delicious thing we got on the market, while Fleur was sleeping sound in the other room.
