Memory Of Hot Days!

Koldskål and tvebakker

Melted heart

Last week it was extremely warm here in Berlin and so I was pleased when I woke up Monday morning to a gray sky and rain.
I spend a lot of time outside and made precautions ahead of the warm weather. One thing I didn't eat for several years is the danish dish koldskål which translated is a cold bowl. It is made from buttermilk with breadcrumbs on top and in my family we always ate it with vanilla ice as well.
I also did homemade lemonade to cool our bodies in the warmth.

The Warmest Day!

With a weatherforecast promissing 38 degress most of the people in Berlin had tried yesterday to escape the city and only a few brave stayed back. The streets were empty and either people hid inside or had gone to the lakes.
We spend the day in the park with some friend hiding under the trees. Wishing Lisa bon voyage before going to Sweden, eating muffins and taboule, playing badminton and talking.
The day ended when our ball got stuck hanging in the tree.

Art'ish Days!

For the next couple of weeks Vincent is going to have some of his work hanging near Alexanderplatz as a part of a competition called "Kunst Braucht Fläche" where he was one of the shortlisted. So we went there Thursday afternoon to see how it looked freshly hanged with the glue still wet and the Fernsehnsturm in the background.
While being in Mitte we went to look for some shoes and gallery to see the Kraftwerk 3D films. After walking around for quite some time in the heat we rewarded ourselves with a scoop of sorbet, before heading towards Wedding to see some more art.
On Saturday was the Vernissage of the competition and we went to have Sekt and see performances, were amongst others some dinosaurs were making live illustrations near Mauerpark. We spend the whole day in the sun trying to catch the few spots of shade, and early in the evening when we sat down to eat burgers at Shiso Burger it was really needed.

Look Up!

The other day while riding my bike to the Funkhaus the power pylons became bigger and bigger along the way. I like them because there is something very sculptural about them and they look quite amazing on a hot cloudless summer day. At the end I reached the power plant where they were all connected. It was right in the middle of the small Gartenkolonien, which there are so many of around Berlin.
To me there has always been something fascinating about power plants. I think mostly because the buildings always seems so huge and intimidating. I think it is the first time that I have been so close to one, and it was amazing to hear the electricity stream through the cables, like a very loud and unfamiliar humming.

Das Funkhaus!

Elisabeth has her studio in the old Radio house of the DDR. This weekend they had an open studio so she invited me to come along to see some of the things people there are doing. I have to admit that I am a sucker for old DDR buildings. They are somehow so big and intimidating and awful and nice at the same time. I took so many pictures of the place in the few hours I was there.

When I go places like this I always start to imagine the things that has been going on once the building was in its proper use. How people were working, how they used the rooms etc.

I have to say that on a warm summer day the place seamed really idyllic, with its location right next to the spree and green bushes and trees everywhere.
I would for sure not mind having a studio there myself.
