Something About A Fall Project!

Between my dissertation readings I have started up a new knitting project with which I have been procrastinating my studies a bit over the weekend.
Elisabeth gave me this beautiful Peruvian alpaca wool for my birthday and I decided that instead of adding another sweater to my collection I wanted to do a really long simple scarf. I wanted to use the linen stitch as it makes the knitting look more like it is woven and really flat and fabric like. It is much less fluffy and really brings out the qualities and different color in the yarn. It will probably take me a long time to finish, as this technique is quite time consuming, but hopefully I will be done by the time it gets really cold.

Elisabeth has her studio in the old Radio house of the DDR. This weekend they had an open studio so she invited me to come along to see some of the things people there are doing. I have to admit that I am a sucker for old DDR buildings. They are somehow so big and intimidating and awful and nice at the same time. I took so many pictures of the place in the few hours I was there.

When I go places like this I always start to imagine the things that has been going on once the building was in its proper use. How people were working, how they used the rooms etc.
 
I have to say that on a warm summer day the place seamed really idyllic, with its location right next to the spree and green bushes and trees everywhere.
I would for sure not mind having a studio there myself.

Friedrichshain with Elisabeth!

Yesterday afternoon Elisabeth and I found ourselves back in our old neighborhood.

We had agreed to meet in the sun and get a beer at Hops & Barley and after we went to a new great falafel place.
I have actually spend quite a bit of time in Freidrichshain since I came back and I still really like this neighborhood. Luckily it is only a few bridges away so I can go there on my bike in half an hour.It reminds me of back when I was living there, so everything always feels so familiar even if things have changed.

A Visit From a Friend!

On Monday Elisabeth arrived to spend a couple of days in my company before continuing to Berlin. Weather was fantastic and we spend most of the days outside, drinking coffee, lying in the park and talking while walking around.
It was really nice to see her again after such a long time and it was nice to have her here for my birthday celebration. I took her to some of my favorite places, among others we went to Foxcroft & Ginger where we had their amazing savory french toast with mustard/maple sirup.
Today I returned to London after a weekend in Nice. I can't wait to share all the photos and nice experiences from there.  

Entering a New Decade!

Yesterday I ended my 20's and began my 30's. I had such a great day, and felt so much love from friends and family.

There were flowers and presents arriving from Denmark, that I had stacked in a corner, waiting to open until the day arrived. There was sun and warmth, great food and coffee. French wine brought home for the occasion and another special birthday cake.

I started very late at night the day before with some friends toasting me into the new decade. A friend made me breakfast pancakes and I speand the day in the sun and in the art gallery with Elisabeth.

In the evening I had a couple of friends for dinner and in the end I was exhasuted.
Today I am heading of to Nice, and I am happy that I have a bit of time to take a nap in the plane.

In The Woods (Part 3): Nature!

Another nice thing about getting out of the city is the nature. The silence and fresh air. Back when I was living with my parents I used to live 3 minutes away from the forest and spend a lot of time there. So it always feels welcome to take a short break from citylife and spend some time in the forest.
I don't really care too much for spiders, but this one I was impressed by. It had managed to make a web right in the middle between two trees standing 3 meters apart.
