Paris 2

Vincent and I also had the opportunity to spend an afternoon alone in sunny Paris. We meet in the south and went through a new neighbourhood where we found a little place to have steak frites. Afterwards we went to a gallery and ended up enjoying the last of the afternoon sun at the busy Tuileries.

Zucchini

As part of our balcony garden, we also planted zucchini this year. It was not really because of the zucchini itself, if so we would have been terribly disappointed as we only managed to harvest one zucchini throughout the season. But we planted them so we could get to eat the tasty zucchini flowers because they are hard to come by here in Berlin, even at the farmers market.

And we had many flowers during June and July and they were as decorative as they were delicious. I love them filled with a ricotta mix, dipped in batter, and deep fried. It is a great summer dish. They certainly brightened up both our balcony and our dinner table this summer and perhaps they will be part of the seeds in next years balcony pot mixture.

Our balcony pots are looking rather sad right now that fall has really taken over, but there is still the occasional flower. Today we put some chestnuts in the soil so if we are lucky one of them will sprout sometime during the next couple of months.

Svendborg

Svendborg was also not far away from the summerhouse, and quite a charming city I found. Not only was there a good atmosphere, lots of leben and old charming houses, but we also found a great bakery, where we went for bread and pastry several times during our one week stay. And here we also ended our stay, with a marzipan-bun and a cup of coffee before hitting back east to devils island.

Valdemar Slot

One afternoon in the overpowering heat - no clouds and no wind - we went to Valdemar castle, which was not too long a drive from the summerhouse. They had a surprisingly huge hunters collection with exotic animals from all over the world, and we spend a fair bit of time there in exile from the sun, but also made it down near the water and enjoyed the view while listening to people practise for an opera production.

Rudkøbing

Rudkøbing was the closest city to our location at Tåsinge, and here we also picked up the keys to the summerhouse. Even if the city is small, there was lots of action and people this week (Even if it can't be seen on the pictures). The city was hoasting the yearly Langelandsfestival, so young people and all sorts of funny characters had found their way there.

In the days leading up to the festival, there was live music in front of the local supermarket, so everytime we came to do our grocery shopping, we got greated by the sound of music. This was quite a nice experience and I wonder why not more supermarkets do this kind of thing. It certainly brightens up the dull groceryshopping, with a bit of live music and beer.
