Spring knitting

This weekend, it is suppose to be up to 11 degrees, and I finished another knitting project, with a real spring feeling to it, just in time for the upcoming season.

Fleur followed me closely in the knitting process and was really exited about this one. Every time she saw it, she would mention it was for her. Who can blame her with those colours? Had I had enough yarn, I'd probably ended up making this one for myself instead, but I am happy to see her in it. When I finished and wanted to try it on Fleur to see the fit, she ended up wearing it for several days in a row and refused any other sweater, so it's definitely a hit.

The pattern is self-thought out, but I got inspired for colour mix on Instagram and used some leftover yarn I had acquired, while I was pregnant and still knitted baby size items. I love to knit brioche knit, it is so light and fluffy and has such a nice texture regardless of the material. You might remember it is not my first brioche stitch sweather.

Knitting Craze

It's the time of year, where I start getting down to the K'nitty-gritty. Now that I have someone in the house who needs an ever changing garderobe it's easy to find new cute mini projects, that I can spend my precious evenings on.

This year I almost didn't manage to take a break in the knitting, there has been constant new inspiration and yarn that I want to use. So far I did this read cardigan, a pattern from Hoppestrik and from yarn that I bought last year on the Boxhagener Saturday food market. Turned out that there was not enough yarn, so I ended up having to order some more online and got caught by another interesting yarn on the website, so I thought, "why not?" I have wanted to make this adorable chunky sweater from Knitting for Olive ever since I found it on Pinterest while I was pregnant. Which didn't take long knitting on size 7 needles. And while I was at it and had some extra yarn to spare, I decided to make a small cardigan for Esmeralda as well, so she wouldn't go chilly through the winter.

I though that was it for now, but apparently I am unstoppable this year. I already started another sweater, but this time with many colors for the summer, so there is something to look forward to.

Culottes

I decided to do a bit of summer knitting. And what better way to spend my leftover yarn, than to knit some matching culottes for Fleur and her doll.

Baby Blanket

The past several months, in my quest to find nice ideas on baby knitting and crochet I have become a bit of a Pinterest addict. I stumbled upon this blanket, which inspired me to do something similar. I found it impossible to find a nice premade baby wool blanket, so I am happy that I could just knit one myself. This one in gather stitch is definitely not difficult to make. Anyone who knows basic knitting can do it.

In January, I bought this amazing wool from La La Berlin in collaboration with Lana Grossa. I really like the color mix, so when I saw it in the store amongst the many other bowls of yarn it was the obvious choice. Since I used big knitting needles, the blanket didn't require a lot of time. Anyway, I had lots of time to kill while in the hospital.

It sure is nice and comfy for Fleur to rest in.

Miniature Projects

I guess most of you already knows this. But if you don't, Vincent and I will add a new little member to our family in a month or so. This is, of course, something we find super exciting and at the same time terrifying. There is something nice about this waiting period full of expectation and uncertainty, and I sometimes wish we could pause the clock and stay here just for a little bit longer.

As you can see from the pictures I have been doing a whole lot of knitting during the past couple of months. Now, there is finally a reason to knit stuff for someone else than myself and I can go crazy in cute baby patterns and tryouts and teddies.

The thing I like most about knitting baby clothes is, that it is so much quicker than if I were to knit a sweater for myself, so I really had fun trying out lots of new patterns and techniques. And I am far from done. I definitely see myself knitting on a more regular basis, now that there is a wardrobe that needs to be renewed every once in a while.

Winter Project!

I started a new little knitting project. Luckily the holidays are coming up so I will maybe have some time to do a lot and finish it there.

Time For a Big Scarf!

You might remember this? I finished it along time ago, but since the weather has been so mild the whole fall I didn't really start using it until recently.
It is so fluffy and warm and goes great with my new red hair.

Something About A Fall Project!

Between my dissertation readings I have started up a new knitting project with which I have been procrastinating my studies a bit over the weekend.
Elisabeth gave me this beautiful Peruvian alpaca wool for my birthday and I decided that instead of adding another sweater to my collection I wanted to do a really long simple scarf. I wanted to use the linen stitch as it makes the knitting look more like it is woven and really flat and fabric like. It is much less fluffy and really brings out the qualities and different color in the yarn. It will probably take me a long time to finish, as this technique is quite time consuming, but hopefully I will be done by the time it gets really cold.

It is the time of year in London where the humidity starts to creep inside the house in invade the windows with water in the morning so it can be difficult to see what's outside. This means that fall has come and there is no way back.
My days resemble one another these days while I am waiting for school to start again. I get up, read, work, eat, walk, read, work, relax, run, eat more, relax, work, watch a movie, read, go to bed.
Today instead of a book I took my knitting to Espresohut and ended up chatting to a random fellow coffee lover while enjoying my cappuccino and brownie. Sometimes it is nice experiencing the word behind knitting needles instead of sticking my nose deep into a book.

Home Made!

Pre-Christmas this year I was very busy knitting. I have been eager to show the stuff I did, but since they were suppose to go under the Christmas tree it didn't make sense to show them before after Christmas eve.
I had a lot of fun doing it, even though it took time away from some of the other things I kept myself busy with, but I found out that knitting through a lecture is actually a really great way of getting two things done at the same time. 
I really like knitting things like scarves and hats, it is such a nice little project that I don't get tired of before finishing and it also feels good to make stuff for other people than myself. If I had time and space in my wardrobe I think I would knit a nice sweater out of the green yarn, but I think I need to take a knitting break and focus on some other things for a while.
