Mid Centery Heaven

Two things I really like about Gothenburg.

There are so many nice mid-centery houses and signs, that I just caught myself going around pointing one out after the other, until Vincent got tired of listening to me. I can't help it. I love this kind of style, because of its clean functional lines, charm and attention to detail.

I also really like the fact that the city seems much more green than any other big city I've visited. Not that it has more parks than other cities I know. It must have something to do with the green carpet spread out underneath many of the tram tracks, and the old grand trees on the boulevards with walking paths in the middle, so one feels saved from traffic and bricks for a while.

It is definitely a nice place to walk around, and so we did. Everyday we walked until our feet could almost not carry us anymore. They were tired as hell, but the next day we got up and walked a bit more.

Morning in Göteborg

One weekend not so long ago Vincent and I made a short trip to Göteborg. We arrived really early Saturday morning, and the city had not really gotten out of bed yet. Streets were empty, but it was a great moment to indulge in some photo taking. A good first impression of all the amazing buildings and the big boulevards. What a beautiful city.

Visit

In the beginning of this month Ming came all the way from Canada and stayed in Berlin some days. We spend a sunny and warm afternoon walking through Neukölln and Kreuzberg, so he could see a bit of the city. A perfect activity to do while catching up after not having seen each other for more than a year.

Treptower Park

On one of the last really warm days this year, we went to Stralau and Treptower Park to go for a walk and enjoy the sun. We ended up at the Sovjet war monument at the south end of the park, where I have never been before. It is really an impressive place, so grand, so beautiful. The statue at the end is so much more bigger, than it appears to be here.

First Attemp at Sourdough Pastry

As I have previous written, I am in the process of trying to convert some of my many baking recipes to use sourdough instead of conventional yeast: Last time it was a brioche. This time the subject was butter dough.

I was going to an afternoon birthday and thought it was a good opportunity to make a cakewoman (a standard Danish birthday pastry) while testing out the dough and also do some other pastries, like Croissant and the favorite Danish Te-birkes.

It was quite a long process, starting Wednesday evening and finishing Saturday midday. First step was making a base of sourdough starter out of some of the ingredients. Next day it was the actual dough. Then came the butter layering and then next day rolling, cutting, shaping and baking. It was a fun little project, and for sure something I will do again. Still need to improve layering of the butter a bit, so the pastry will end up more fluffy. But even though the sourdough was present in the taste, they were quite good. And Fritzi was certainly a hit at the party.
