Thanksgiving Dinner

After suggesting it herself, I encouraged Teal to have Thanksgiving dinner. It was also an occation to celebrate moving in to her new home. Therefore I experienced my first thanksgiving dinner ever, which was a lovely evening with good food, company, fun games and of cause giving thanks.

Flødebolle Making

Not so long ago I had Friederike and Marine over for a Kitchen date to venture yet another unexplored culinary challenge: Flødeboller. I just found out that Flødeboller is actually a Danish invention, and that it was originally made with cream, hence the name Creamball. I also learned that each Dane eat on average 45 of them a year. We put them on ice-creams (This is called An American), which I guess can explain a part of this high number.

I vaguely remember making Flødeboller once in my aunt's kitchen as a child. Then I haven't thought much of it since. But this summer I found a recipe by Johan Bülow, with raspberry foam and liqourice coating, that I knew I had to try out eventually.

It was a much longer process than I thought it would be. It sounds easy enough to have to make some foam, put it on a piece of marzipan and cover it with chocolate, but it was anything but. To end up with 17 good ones it took us about 3 hours. Though in the process we had fun and learned a couple of tricks for the next time. The result was really delicious, but aesthetics are yet to be improved.

Hirschgarten

Some weekends back, while the sun was warm and there were still some leaves on the trees, Vincent and I took the train towards Erkner and decided to jump of a Hirschgarten for a walk. We didn't see any dears, just a lot of happy dogs and some crickets making noise. But it was quite a beautiful walk among all the great colors of fall.

Now there is not so many leaves on the trees anymore, even our balcony feels a bit sad, and today Berlin had its first snow. Completely unexpected.

Hope you had a nice weekend.

Fall Heaven

The city has been filled with so many great colors and a clear blue sky lately. It has been a bit of a fall paradise. These pictures are a few weeks old, and already now everything looks a bit more dull. It is still surprisingly warm and I enjoy that I still don't have to use my winter coat.I hope you have been enjoying all the many colors as well.

Have a great weekend.

Haus Am Waldsee

Recently Vincent and I decided to go to Haus Am Waldsee to see the Alicja Kwade exhibition. We took the train to Mexicoplatz and walked from there in very idyllic surroundings. I have never been to Haus Am Waldsee but found it a nice little spot. I can imagine it must be quite nice in late spring and summertime when you can sit in the garden and have tea and cake after looking at the exhibition. I liked the exhibition, at least aesthetically, though I wish it would have been a bit larger.

Afterward we went for a walk in the forest around Waldsee and made our way up to Onkel Toms Hütte where we took the train back. It was a nice warm and sunny day, and with so many different colors and leaves. It reminded me again why fall is my favorite time of the year.

Gothenburg Botanical Garden

On our last day in Gothenburg all the Biennale venues were closed, which gave us a chance to look a bit closer at the city. By pure coincidence we went into a park, which turned out to be the botanical garden. And we spend quite a bit of time in the greenhouse, admiring all the tropical plants (especially these water leaves, that looks kind of like trays).

I found it quite nice that there were tables in there, so one could bring a foodbasket or something, or just come there to read a book or work inside the "jungle". Even though small, it is definitely one of the nicest greenhouses I have visited.

I was also quite impressed with the many roses that were still blooming this late in the year. I might have got in wrong, but for me roses are such a late spring/summer flower. Anyway, it was such a nice park, and I was really glad we got to see it.
