A Night with Johnny Flynn!

Last night I was at one the most amazing concerts in a long long time. It was Johnny Flynn and the Sussex Wit playing in beautiful Hackney Empire which most of all reminded me of the old Royal Danish Theater.
I was really tired and on the verge of sick, but as soon as the music began I forgot time and my misery and was completely captured for the next one and a half hour. I don't know which song is my favorite, but Been Listening was the one that got me into him in the first place. Perhaps because of the guitar solo.

5 Song I Listened To Lately no. 1!

Sometimes it happens that I keep listening to the same songs over and over again, and then I suddenly forget about them and move on to the next.
Here are 5 songs I have been listening to recently that I thought I would share. I love getting inspired by others to listen to new music, and hopefully I can inspire you a little as well. To make it easy for you to listen I have added a link to each.

I would say that the video to Angus and Julia Stone plus Allah-Las are both worth watching if not for the music at least for the image. 

Sunday Soundtrack!

The past week I have had a lot to do. In two weeks we have assessment in school so I am working to have a first edit ready on my film.
Last night I was looking through the material. I am happy with how it turned out, and hope I will have a good result in the end. 
Again today it was another bright Sunday so I took a walk to Railroad to get a coffee and enjoy the sun.
Next week will be equally hectic so today I wanted to use the day for writing and finishing some of all the things I had lying around, which needed to be done and maybe relax a bit.
 I've been listening to "The Staves" and "John Grant", two of the great supporting acts I saw lately and I wanted to share this song.
It makes me think of all the thoughts I constantly have in my head that I need to write them down in order to remember them and let them out of my head. Otherwise I will think of them constantly in anxiety that they will disappear.

Disappointment!

I normally don't write about bad experiences I've had or things that I would not recommend, but today I will make and exception.
Last night I went to see Bon Iver in Arena Halle, Berlin. I must admit I had high expectations. First of all I really love his music. Second I saw him this year at The Roskilde Festival, where he gave one of the most beautiful concert I have ever listened to. I managed to forget time and space around me and even shared a tear because I got so overwhelmed by the music.
So yes, expectations were high!
I even got a ticket for Vincent because I though it would be a nice event to see together. One we would be able to look back on with fond memories like many concert before, which we have shared.
What can I say? Maybe some music is not meant to be heard by an audience of 9000 people. Maybe Bon Iver has just become to big for himself? But then again, at Roskilde the concert was pretty successful, and he played for an audience about the same size.
I think Justin Vernon should consider getting himself a new sound engineer because the sound was in the end what ruined it for me. The image above (which is from the concert) pretty much visualize how the music sounded. Both bass and discant was turned up to the max, so all the beautiful middle-tones and details, which is what makes his music so beautiful disappeared.
Instead of a nine man ochestra he could have settled for himself, a drummer and a bassist.
Folk music is not the same as rock and I felt like it was trying to be a rock concert more than anything else. The only little bright moment was when he played "Stacks" left alone on stage with the three girl from the supporting act (The Starves) as a choir.
I didn't feel like applauding once and could not help but smile when a guy standing behind us actually buhh'ed. I had time to think about my day, my plans for tomorrow and all the things I am working on instead of being taking away by the music and the vibe. This is the first time I ever left a concert before the encore. I just didn't see any reason to stay for two more songs. In the end I came out and felt that I didn't only waste my money but also my time.

Efterklang!

Tonight I took some time of from studying and went to see Danish band "Efterklang" at the beautiful Barbican center. They were playing their new album  "Pyramida" together with an amazing ensemble "The northern Sinfonia".
I have seen "Efterklang" live before. First together with "Slaraffenland" and then one time at Roskilde, but this was the first time in a proper solo concert situation and it was by far the best one as well.
Although their music is quite rhythmic I found it great to be seated, cause it somehow allows you to fully concentrate on the music. The supporting act was John Grant and he was indeed grant. I was very disappointed to discover that some of the songs he performed is not yet reliesed. 
Every time I go to a live music act I always regret not going to more, because it can be such a great and intense experience and I mostly leave a concert with the feeling of being a little more happy.  

Perfect Fall Soundtrack!

Even though this is a sad song I really like it. The music video is also very cute and I love the colors and that they are wearing curry and mustard yellow blouses. It fits perfect with the fall happening right now, both the colors bus also the slight melancholic and at the same time joy it makes me fell when I listen to it.

Teitur Again Again!

Last night I went to see Teitur for the third time. I went all the way from London back to Denmark to see him play at "Templet". On the way home to Denmark I got sick and thought for a moment that I would not make it, but even though I was pretty weak I pulled myself together for the concert and was glad that I went. This is the first time I saw him play a song from his album in Faroese and also his only song in Danish, and Templet is such a nice small venue which can only hold about 200 people so it was a really nice intimate experience.

Today I did 6 out of 7. Ironically I woke up pretty early and couldn't sleep, however it gave me a chance to do many of the things that I had to. Sweater is coming nicely along, it will be finished before the real cold hits London.
After spending some of the day out and about I relaxed at home while listening to Nils Frahm's Screws album. To me this is the perfect Sunday soundtrack.

Relaxing Summer Days!

I chose to spend some of my days in Denmark at my aunts on Fyn. First stop was as always on Tidens Samling, my absolute favourite museum. They currently had an exhibition about royal Copenhagen's Mussel china. I enjoyed Odense but also to be at the countryside where there is no distubance what so ever.
We had fish, fish and more fish to eat. It really felt like danish summer, one moment the weather was nice next moment not.
I had time to read a book, relax after Roskilde and enjoy the fresh seaside air.

A bike that I have from my great grandmother, It is more than a 100 years old. It may not be that comfortable to ride, but it's real pretty, and means a lot to me.
